Wonderful place, amazing food, very reasonable prices, friendly people and very nice atmosphere (a former school which explains the name)
Overview
Restaurant Le Bonnet D'âne is a hidden gem located in the heart of Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, France, at 1679 Chemin de la Guillotière, Villette, 38380. This charming restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that combines traditional French cuisine with modern flair. Whether you're a local or a visitor exploring the area, this spot promises a memorable meal that satisfies both the stomach and the soul.
One of the first things that stands out about Restaurant Le Bonnet D'âne is its inviting atmosphere. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a warm, rustic ambiance that feels both cozy and elegant. The interior features wooden beams, exposed brick walls, and soft lighting that create a relaxed yet sophisticated dining environment. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you're stepping into someone's home, rather than a commercial restaurant.
When it comes to the menu, Restaurant Le Bonnet D'âne excels in offering a range of dishes that highlight the rich culinary traditions of the region. Their menu changes seasonally to ensure the freshest ingredients are always on hand. During a recent visit, I had the pleasure of trying their signature dish, a tender duck confit paired with roasted vegetables and a rich, flavorful sauce. The duck was cooked to perfection, with a crispy skin and juicy, melt-in-your-mouth meat. Every bite was a perfect balance of flavors, and the vegetables were a great accompaniment, adding both texture and taste.
For those with a love of seafood, the restaurant also offers a selection of fish dishes that showcase the quality of fresh local catches. The pan-seared salmon served with a zesty lemon beurre blanc was another standout. The fish was perfectly cooked, flaky on the inside with a crisp golden exterior. It's clear that the chefs at Restaurant Le Bonnet D'âne know how to work with seasonal ingredients, and the results are always flavorful and satisfying.
Another notable feature of this restaurant is its dedication to serving homemade bread and desserts. The bread, served warm at the start of the meal, has a crusty exterior and soft, airy interior that perfectly complements the savory dishes. As for dessert, the crème brûlée is a must-try. It’s a delightful blend of creamy custard with a perfectly caramelized top, offering just the right amount of sweetness to end the meal on a high note.
What truly sets Restaurant Le Bonnet D'âne apart, however, is the service. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to offer recommendations or explain the finer details of each dish. Their attention to detail makes the dining experience feel personal and tailored to each guest, which is a rare treat. On my visit, the waiter made sure to check in regularly to ensure that everything was to our liking without being intrusive, creating a perfect balance of attentiveness.
The location, nestled in the beautiful countryside of Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, only adds to the charm. Whether you’re sitting inside or enjoying a meal on the outdoor terrace, you can take in the scenic views of the surrounding area. It’s the perfect setting for a quiet dinner or a gathering with friends and family. Given the peaceful environment, it's easy to see why locals and tourists alike choose this restaurant for special occasions or a simple, satisfying meal out.
The prices at Restaurant Le Bonnet D'âne are reasonable considering the quality of food and the overall dining experience. While it might not be the cheapest option in town, the quality and atmosphere more than make up for it. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a leisurely meal without feeling rushed, and the exceptional food makes every penny worth it.
If you're looking for a dining experience that combines authentic French cuisine, seasonal ingredients, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Restaurant Le Bonnet D'âne should be at the top of your list. Its reputation for excellence, paired with the stunning location in Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, makes it an ideal spot for any occasion.

Nice restaurant in an old school. Here you can eat between the French in a big shaded terrace at the back of the building.
Lovely family friendly converted school house, with modern and clean facilities, great theming, tasteful decor, and toys for the kids both in the restaurant and bigger toys and tricycles in the courtyard. Service was warm and attentive, and our waitress was excellent with my children. They have a small 2 choice children's menu so check it out online if you have picky eaters. My son eats anything so was very happy with his chicken and fries. The menu for adults is small but caters for all tastes (meat, fish and vegetarian) and the 30€ set menu was excellent value. (Better a small acheivable menu than something the kitchen struggles with or takes from the freezer) Portions were good, and everything was homemade, fresh and tasty. Decent selection of wines by the glass, carafe and bottle and some local beers and spirits. We visited on a busy Sunday lunch and all tables seemed to be happy and served in a timely manner, the food was good and the atmosphere pleasant. The tables are well spaced and everything was flawless. We will definitely return, especially looking forward to the summer to enjoy the terrace
Very good local food. The restaurant is located in a former school, hence the decorations in the dining room. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I recommend this restaurant. The menu costs 28 euros. You have a choice between 3 starters, 3 main courses (2 meats and 1 fish) and several excellent deserts.
Terrific restaurant with seasonal and local, organic ingredients. Even as a vegetarian, it was easy to chose delicious dishes. Highly recommend!
Great atmosphere in this converted village a school. Apparently it was a school until 10 years ago and was converted into a restaurant in 2019. Interesting and affordable menus.
Brilliant place with excellent service Very buzzy for a Wednesday night added to the atmosphere.
